ISIB (Instituut voor Brandveiligheid – Institut de Sécurité Incendie), founded in 1987, is a non-profit organisation aiming to promote scientific research in the field of fire safety and to coordinate this research within the fire testing laboratories of the Universities of Ghent and Liège, as well as to assure the propagation and application of the scientific knowledge, gathered in the field of fire safety. Furthermore, ISIB gives advice in the field of fire safety and renders technical assistance in these fields.
The principal members of ISIB are the fire testing laboratories of the Universities of Liège and Ghent (WFRGENT nv), the carpenter federations, the manufacturer federations, the insurance federations, fire department organisations, the Home Affairs FPS and the Federal Buildings Authority.
ISIB is also member of the Deviation Committee of the Home Affairs Federal Public Service.
Main activities :
Technical Secretariat of the Bureau Benor/Atg for fire resistant doors
Certification of installers of fire resistant doors within BELAC accreditation
Construction site expertise concerning the fire resistance of building elements, in particular fire resistant doors installed by uncertified installers
Technical support for fire departments, manufacturers and installers operating in the field of fire safety
Technical assessments or construction site assessments: interpretations, extrapolations, acknowledgements of fire test results of building elements
Investigation whether an equivalent degree of protection can be obtained for a building based on Fire Safety Engineering
